The 'R&D Damper' was developed to prevent gearbox rattle (gear hammer) at low engine speeds and allow engines to be used over their complete speed range. To isolate the torsional vibrations at slow speeds it is necessary to have a very soft drive connection, which must be sufficiently strong to transimt the full torque. The 'R&D Damper' meets these requirements and consists of a moulded element in a new type polyurethane which is fail safe and in the unlikely event of a flexible element failing, the drive is maintained.

R&D can offer three styles of Damper Drive Plate. The loop type is suitable for most applications. in some cases the 3 stage stiffness of the Hammer Head or the High Deflection Type is more suitable on torsionally active applications.

R&D Marine has a wide range of damper elements to meet all applications from 80 to 1630 Nm.

Why you should buy R&D Flexible Couplings

Note: All flexible couplings are supplied with nuts and bolts ready for installing

Couplings as standard are non-conducting but we can supply a silver impregnated rubber element to fit in the centre of the coupling between the two fail safe straps to give continuity if required.

The R&D 910 Series couplings consist of a contoured flexible disc moulded in tough yet resilient new type polyurethane. The contoured disc gives clearance for the bolt heads, and is able to flex freely to take up any temporary misalignment of the engine and shaft, due to flexing of the boat structure or the engine moving on its rubber vibration isolation mountings. Forward thrust is taken in compression on the disc between the two half couplings and reverse thrust is taken again in compression on the disc between the two fail straps. In the unlikely event of a disc failure the steel straps make the coupling fail safe and ensure drive is maintained in both forward and reverse.

The 900 series couplings use flat discs and contoured castings with a central high tensile bolt to take reverse thrust, they are also fail safe.

HALYARD Bronze Siphon Breakers H000566

The bronze used in our siphon breaker is Silicon Brass C87800, ASTM B176 , ASTM
ZS144A. This contains no zinc. Siphon breakers containing zinc may corrode,
particularly if the vessel's anodes are corroded and the siphon breaker is electrically
connected to this - perhaps by re-inforcing wire in the rubber water hose. Silicon brass
is also a superior material as it will resist water erosion. As water flows through the
siphon breaker erosion wear will occur, and silicon brass is better able to cope with
this than materials containing nickel or zinc. The use of this material accounts for the
high cost of our Siphon Breaker, but ensures the best possible material for the job.
The U bend on the top of the unit will emit water occasionally. This can be drained
overboard or into the bilge, but the hose used must not under any circumstances be
immersed in water at the bottom end, or the water will siphon back up the system -
potentially into the engine.

HALYARD Exhaust Alert H000419

THE EXHAUST ALERT SYSTEM

The Halyard Exhaust Alert works with a 12 volt or 24 volt supply.
It has three main components:

Sensor
A stainless sensor which screws through a 10mm hole in the exhaust hose, placing a temperature sensor right in the gas flow about 100mm (4") behind the engine. Up to three sensors can be used, covering twin engined craft and generators.

 

Junction Box
The junction box mounts in the engine space. This compact unit (75mm x 105mm) fits on a bulkhead in the engine space. Wires from the sensors and the helm display connect to it. It connects to the power supply (which must be live only when the ignition is turned on). A fuse is fitted for protection, and so that the system can be disarmed.

 

Helm display
This neat display (70mm x 35mm) fits near the helm and has a ready light, with warning lights for each engine and a small buzzer. A 120dB siren can be connected. The display self-tests when the engine is turned on, flashing the lights and sounding the buzzer. If the sensor overheats the relevant light will flash and the buzzer will sound. A tiny button allows you to shut down the buzzer.

A special system is also available without a helm display – a neat OEM kit which experts can wire into their own systems.

Halyard Stainless Steel Exhaust Thru-hull Flapper H002524

When the Halyard Exhaust Thru-Hull Fitting was designed, we set out to achieve a make of product which was infinitely stronger than the plastic and GRP units on the market – and tougher than most stainless units.
The Halyard Thru-Hull uses 3mm thick 316 stainless to ensure that the risks of damage when manoeuvring a craft are reduced to the absolute minimum. All units are designed so that the flap, at rest, is shrouded by the stainless rim to prevent damage if the vessel nudges a harbour wall.

Through Hull Fittings – Neoprene Flap
Units to accept exhaust hose up to and including 100mm (4") hose have neoprene flaps. Each has a really generous tail allowing "T" bar exhaust hose clamps to be used to secure the hose. Smaller sizes have 3 countersunk fixing holes. The 90mm and 100mm (3.5" and 4") units have 4 bolt holes and a bolting flange which fits right around the unit inside the hull.
Through Hull Fittings – Stainless Flap
Units from 125mm (5") upwards all have stainless flaps lined with neoprene. All have tails with plenty of space to use proper "T" bar clamps to secure the hose. Between 4 and 8 bolt holes are provided and all units have bolting flanges to fit around the unit inside the hull. Sizes to suit up to 300mm (12") hose are currently manufactured, and they are a normal stock item up to 254mm (10").
